Brisbane's iconic Newstead House has reopened and is open for visitation on Fridays from 10am-2pm and Sundays from 10am-4pm, allowing visitors to wander through Brisbane’s oldest European residence.

First built in 1846, the heritage-listed property became one of the finest homes in the Moreton Bay settlement and the hub of Brisbane’s social life, before becoming a house museum in more recent times.

Listed on the Queensland Heritage Register, the iconic landmark has contributed to the city’s social, cultural and historic lore for 178 years.

Newstead House recently reopened to the public following a $6.65 million renovation, which restored the historic house to original late-1800s glory.

The three-year restoration presents period decoration, furnishings and other elements to reflect when local businessman George Harris and his family were in residence from 1862 to 1889. Newstead House grew to its current size in this period.

Street metered parking is available via Newstead Avenue, Breakfast Creek Road and Skyring Terrace. Further parking options are available at Gasworks Plaza Car Park and Secure Parking on Longland Street.

For public transport options, the CityCat ferry service stops at Newstead Park Ferry Terminal and buses run frequently along Breakfast Creek Road and Skyring Terrace.
