Sherwood Bazaar Antiques
Sherwood
The absolute epitome of a treasure trove, Sherwood Bazaar Antiques is literally packed to the rafters with delights and gems from yesteryear.
For Brisbane’s lovers of antiques and collectables, this cornucopia is a must-visit for those with a penchant for pretty pieces from the past.
Residing in what was a popular 1920’s corner store and its adjoining residence, visitors and collectors of antiques will enjoy exploring the multitudes of vintage furniture, Depression-era pieces and art deco wares.
Established in 1981 and undoubtedly one of Brisbane’s largest independent antique collections under one roof, each item has been personally curated by the owner, Paul Thannhauser – and there are thousands of items, spanning from the early Victorian era through into the 21st century.
In fact, the Sherwood Bazaar collection of antiques flows across eight rooms of the building, so allow plenty of time on your first visit to explore and appreciate the offerings.
Just like Aladdin’s cave, everywhere you look has something special that you’ll want to be taking home.
Stock moves regularly and you’ll find pieces for every room of the house, along with being affordably priced, and reflective of current market values.
Larger pieces of bedroom furniture, such as antique timber wardrobes, wooden bedroom tallboys and drawers, along with handcrafted dressing tables and timber framed mirrors are available, with the natural woods varying from mahogany, silky oak, golden oak, French oak, to walnut furniture pieces, Australian pine, and white cedar, just to name a few.
On the hunt for the likes of brass beds or cast-iron beds, hand-made timber cupboards, wooden dressers, dressing tables, bookcases and wooden shelving units, Sherwood Bazaar Antiques is where to head as these household furniture staples are often among the collection.
There is an abundance of vintage kitchenware, vintage glassware, crockery and tableware (the likes of Royal Doulton, Waterford, Wedgewood, early Noritake, blue Willow pattern and more … you get the picture), and cookware (think vintage Pyrex, cast iron skillets, copper pans, etc), coupled with furniture to suit your kitchen, dining room and verandahs (think dining tables, linen dressers, carved dining chairs, vintage cane outdoor furniture, retro drinks trolleys plus more).
Amongst the range of vintage furniture, you’ll find silverware and enamel pieces, dainty figurines and colourful ceramics, green depression glass & pressed glass, crisp hand-embroidered linens, Toby Jugs, pottery jugs, silver cutlery sets, encyclopedia sets, old vinyl records, wine decanters, ornate lamps & art nouveau vases, as well as framed pictures and wall art, just for starters.
Nice to know – There is plenty of customer parking at the rear, with entry via Mayhew Street.
Need to know – If there is something in particular that you’re looking for, reach out to Paul and let him know.
