Mt Coot-tha Rocks Riverside

Bikeway

Updated: Mar 08, 2025

This ride via the Western Freeway bike path begins at the beautiful sub-tropical Botanic Gardens and ends at the southwest’s showcase riverfront parklands.

Park in the Botanical Gardens car park and turn right from the entrance where a short distance down hill the bike path begins. Almost immediately it heads up over the Toowong roundabout walk/cycle bridge and down the other side to the Western Freeway bikeway. This purpose built off road path shadows the freeway pretty much all the way to Jindalee (about 12km away), where, upon crossing the river, follow the signs down to Seventeen Mile Rock and the Rocks Riverside Park on the left.

The riverside promenade winds its way along the river through beautiful grassy reserves until it hits Rocks Riverside Park, built on the site of old coral crushing works, which is well worth spending some time checking out the relics in.

Within the streets behind the park is an Austrian coffee house, a great place for a hearty dish of grostl on a weekend.
