Ju Raku En Japanese Gardens

Toowoomba

A meditative Zen-like scene unfolds around every corner of Ju Raku En Japanese Gardens in Toowoomba.

The gardens have been laid out around a central "celestial" lake where ducks, fish and turtles swim peacefully beneath traditional red bridges. The bridges cross over onto three separate islands which are a popular setting for picnics and wedding photos.

The 4-acre gardens are one of Australia's largest Japanese gardens, featuring waterfalls, a tea house, bamboo groves, an azalea hill, a wisteria arbor, conifers, and of course, cherry blossom trees. There are three kilometres of paths to explore and admire.

The name Ju Raku En translates as "enjoying peace and longevity in a public place" and for this reason, many families visit the gardens in all seasons. This contemplative garden is especially stunning during The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, which takes place every September.

Nice to know - There is an additional entrance and street parking located along Regent Street. Ju Raku En is wheelchair accessible.
