Spicy I'm Thai
Spicy I’m Thai is a cute, pavilion-style Thai street food eatery tucked away in the square next to the Paddington Antique Centre.
Here you’ll find spicy flavour-filled dishes from north-east Thailand that you won’t find anywhere else in Brisbane, with fresh market herbs and vegetables taking precedence and the usual concessions not made to Western palates.
The pleasant setting is casual contemporary Asian, with timber banquettes, bamboo lanterns and plastic roll-up walls that on one side, look out over stunning Paddington vistas, making this a great spot to sit on a summer night.
Must-try from the Starters is the Duck Roti, and recommended from the many soups is the Pink Noodle Soup (fish ball, fish slice, blood jelly and pork liver). Other noodle soups include Stew Duck, Beef or Chicken, Tom Yum (the real deal), Steam Chicken or Pork Rice Flake.
An amazing array of fantastic salads include Crispy Cat Fish, Blue Crab, Vermicelli, Nam Tok (BBQ Pork/chicken/beef with herbs and dried chilli dressing), and a range of Som Tum (green papaya salad) including Blue or Salted Crab, Prawn or Thai (peanut and dried shrimp).
Meanwhile, a range of rice dishes include Fried Rice (pineapple, chilli jam or crab meat) and Steam Ginger Rice with crispy pork, steam chicken, deep-fried pork chop or BBQ duck.
Whole Fish served here is barramundi, which comes deep-fried with tamarind, garlic pepper sauce or fish sauce dressing, or steamed with lemon chilli dressing.
Can’t decide? Then check out the Chef’s Suggestions such as Stir-Fried Soft Shell or Blue Crab with curry paste, Century Egg with pork mince, chilli and basil or Stir-Fried Morning Glory with basil.
Spicy I’m Thai also has a tasty list of stir fries to choose from: think crispy pork belly in red curry paste or battered prawns in chili and garlic tamarind sauce.
Drinks-wise, things are kept traditional too, with choices of whole fresh coconut, coconut or palm juice, ice thai milk tea or coffee as well as soft drinks.
Need to know - Spicy I’m Thai is BYO, with a corkage fee. There is a convenient bottle shop just 10m from the restaurant.
