Simply For Strings

Red Hill

Updated: Sep 15, 2024

Ensconced in the original 1885 Ithaca Shire Presbyterian church atop a ridge is this simply beautiful violin shop with spectacular city views.

Not just a beauty spot, it also happens to be a brilliant place to acquire a violin, viola, bass or cello, either brand new or reconditioned (there is a workshop next door). Even the cheaper imported instruments have been made over with a handcrafted finish, thanks to the team who believe that quality is as important as technique.

For children who come here for their first set of strings, the church interior with its stained glass windows, walls hung with instruments of varying hues and brightly coloured music stands and accessories is akin to a musical lolly shop. And there is no end to the patience of the enthusiastic staff, musicians themselves, who can walk parents and prodigies alike through the buying experience.

Regardless of purchase intent, if passing by it is worth a look, just for the vista from the rear glass wall.
