Belgian Chocolate Saloon

Beenleigh

THE BELGIAN CHOCOLATE SALOON HAS MOVED AND BEEN RENAMED SWEET CHOCOLATE BREW.

The Belgian Chocolate Saloon is an absolute treasure of an arty café lounge that adds a touch of inner city cool to Beenleigh CBD’s main street.

Belgian Chocolate Saloon's shop front

With its little black balcony covered with striped beach umbrella out front and its art covered doorway it’s hard to miss. Take the stairs up to find a cosy eclectic lounge of red velveteen and dark wood chairs and tables, adorned with vintage knick knacks and street art from the Metalbox Art Gallery at the rear. Quirky touches include miniature jars of jelly beans on the tables and a plasticine head centrepiece that has been sculpted by a business owner across the road and which customers are welcome to try their hand at moulding themselves.

Seating and artworks on wall inside the Belgian Chocolate Saloon

On the menu here are a range of delectable artisan chocolate (made on premise) and sweet based offerings divided into The Chocolate Selection, Hotties, Coldies, and a small selection of light breakfasts and lunch wraps. And best of all this would have to be the most unbeatable value around, with not one menu item over $10 and most coming in well under.

Handmade chocolates on a plate

From the (main) Chocolate Selection choices mostly come served with ice-cream and include delicious Home Made Waffles with strawberries and drizzled with chocolate, British Style Pancakes with lemon, sugar and maple pot, Chocolate Crepes (GF) served between thick Belgian Chocolate, Hot Brownie Mess drizzled with hot chocolate and crumbles truffle, homemade cakes or a ‘made in house’ truffle selection.

The Hotties (drinks) include Belgian hot thick chocolate or hot mint chocolate or skinny hot chocolate served with homemade mallow, Italian Mocha or vanilla ice-cream scoop in a long black; and The Coldies are thick fresh chocolate shake topped with fondue chocolate and vanilla marshmallows or homemade lemonade.

Paintings on wall and shelves

In addition to all of that sweet stuff there’s something for savoury tooths too, with a light breakfast menu (served from 7-11) that has to be the best value in town, of toasted sour dough/multigrain with either double smoked bacon, free range local eggs and roma tomato or sliced avo, pan fried mushrooms, tomatoes and free range eggs. Otherwise there’s double smoked bacon and egg roll, toasted hot cross buns or Greek yoghurt with muesli and strawberries.

The lunch menu, served through until evening (11-9) features a range of wraps uch as sweet chilli chicken, Hawaiian (baked ham, pineapple and salad), Tandoori chicken, Caesar salad or bacon and egg roll.

Need to know – On Wednesday and Friday nights the art gallery out back holds music jam sessions. Belgian Chocolate Saloon has just acquired a bar license so keep an eye out for it morphing into a cool small bar in the evenings.

Nice to know – Check out the cool barber Lay Low Cutz next door with a range of tees for sale and in-house DJ – a fitting neighbour for the chocolate saloon.
