Samsonvale Cemetery

Samsonvale

Updated: Mar 08, 2025

This tiny burial ground on the picturesque shores of Lake Samsonvale was once home to the local Presbyterian Church, the plaque of which can be found on site. Opened in 1884, it operated until 1969 and was demolished in 1973 to make way for the damming of the lake to form part of the North Pine Catchment.

The first resident of the local hamlet of Joyner was interred here in 1912 and the last in 1990. Nearby a shingle roofed slab hut provisional school operated from 1875 and housed the congregation until the church was built.
