Wittacork Dairy Cottages, a rural escape just outside Maleny has much to offer, but the jewel in its crown is the stunning view.

Perched atop one of the many undulating hills in Witta, this 300 acre working dairy farm overlooks beautiful Lake Baroon and adjoins state forest. From the cottages and the farmhouse, guests enjoy an amazing view of the lake and the rolling green hills of this rural pocket, just a short eight minute drive from the Maleny township.

Whether holidaying with the family, a group of friends or taking time out with that someone special, Wittacork Dairy Cottages is the perfect destination for those looking to relax and recharge. Accommodation choices include 3 timber cottages and a very comfortable farmhouse - all with views of the lake.

The timber cottages are as pretty as a picture and self contained. Sleeping configurations vary from cottage to cottage - check the website for further info.

Each cottage has a large deck with scenic views and a wood stove heater and with the dairy and animals are just a short walk away, are well located.

Those staying at the self contained farmhouse (which sleeps up to eight guests) will enjoy lingering over meals on the large deck which takes advantage of the view of the picturesque rural setting and Lake Baroon.

In cooler weather, the wood stove heater keeps everyone snug as bugs and the house toasty warm. Friendly goats are just over the back fence and the dairy is right next door - handy when it's time to milk the cows and feed the animals.

Calfs being feed milk

Guests are encouraged to join in with the animal feeding and can also watch the cows being milked in the dairy. In fact, if it's a hands-on experience that visitors are looking for, farmers Rob and Anne are happy for visitors to try their hands at milking a cow.

Wittacork Dairy is one of the local dairies that supplies Maleny Dairies and although dairying is the main focus on-farm, there are other animals that demand their share of the attention.  Feeding time sees everyone making the acquaintance of Boris and Pumba (two rather large pigs), a friendly herd of goats, cute little calves and a brood of chickens.

If the kids are lucky they might score a ride on Farmer Rob's special green machine which they'll love doing almost as much as he does.

If the hens are laying, there'll be egg collecting to do - Farmer Anne will provide the kids (big and little) with an egg collecting basket on arrival.

For those with energy to burn, a two-kilometre walk through rainforest is on the doorstep - this takes roughly 90 minutes at a leisurely pace. Pack a picnic lunch and take a break in the rainforest gazebo.

Alternatively, enjoy a shorter 500 meter loop walk or a walk around the farm. There's also a rather steep walk from the property to Lake Baroon. Maps of these walks are provided.

With such a picturesque setting, this destination will delight keen photographers. With both sunrise and sunset delivering stunning photography opportunities, it’d be a crime not to take a few pics, so don’t forget the camera.

Just a short drive from Wittacork Dairy is the quaint and quirky township of Maleny where award winning cafes, art galleries, fabulous bookshops, markets, gift shops and more await. Visits to Maleny Cheese and Maleny Dairies are also worth putting on the list of must-dos. Take a drive to Baroon Pocket Dam - this is a lovely spot for a picnic or barbeque and to enjoy the local bird life.

There's much to see and do in this area but the temptation to just relax and put the feet up is overwhelming. After all, when a holiday location is as good as this, it really is enough to simply "be".
