Kingston Butter Factory

Kingston

Updated: May 16, 2024

The Kingston Butter Factory began life in 1907, at the height of Kingston's dairy farming days and as a timber structure.

By 1932 it had been clad in red brick to become the landmark building that was chosen as a Bicentennial project in 1988 to be converted into a community arts centre.

At its height in the 1930s it was churning out 40-50 tonnes of butter per week, then in 1958 dairy company Peters took over and diversified into milk, cottage cheese and baker's cheese until 1983 when the lease expired, and the factory was resumed by Logan City Council.

The butter factory has been refurbished in 2022 as a stunning community arts and cultural centre - the Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct.
