This little cluster of stand out weatherboard buildings are both an ode to the father of Presbyterianism in Brisbane, the Scottish immigrant Reverend Thomas Mowbray, and a fine architectural example of the evolving church movement in the late 19th century.

Reverend Mowbray, who set up the first Presbyterian church in Grey St South Brisbane in 1851, died at 55 years of age, well before the church came into being, with the land on which it was built donated by his widow Williamina from their subdivided original estate. Their nine children went on to be active congregational members for many years and as a further legacy there is a charming little park further up the road which is named after his wife.
