A glowing example of late Victorian architecture built for the moneyed classes, Nassagaweya with its decorative fretwork, gables and porches was designed and built by accomplished architect and surveyor and later Mayor of South Brisbane, Arthur Morry.

When he first arrived in Brisbane though he was known as a ‘boy preacher’ with his devotion to the God and the Methodist church compelling him to ‘spread the word’ which he took literally.

He was known to hold sermons in several locations all on the one Sunday, walking from Spring hill in the morning to The Gap in the afternoon to Paddington in the evening.
