Wickham Terrace Car Park

Spring Hill

Updated: Mar 08, 2025

Many drive in, out and past without ever noticing the distinctive 1960’s features or giving a second thought to Wickham Terrace car park which was designed by innovative city council architect James Birrell (who also did Toowong Library and Centenary Pool).

The giant spiral ramps which allowed cars to easily bypass each other going from floor to floor were highly original at the time and the ‘tattooed’ concrete lift tower with its embossed wall paid homage to James’s belief that buildings should be artworks too.
