How Cities Work

Workshops Rail Museum

How Cities Work is a fantastic, interactive, family exhibition featuring a spectacular 2-metre-high cityscape full of tactile and sensory activities, on display at The Workshops Rail Museum until October 5.

How Cities Work is a great way for children and adults alike to understand how our cities work, from urban planning to public transport.

How Cities Work, Workshops Rail Museum

There's something new to uncover on every street corner, from skyscapers and green spaces, to the secret underground world of sewers.

Visitors can peek inside buildings, explore underground networks, and see and hear the city come to life with playful animations and bustling sounds. Kids can also get into construction mode and build their own metropolis.

How Cities Work, Workshops Rail Museum

Developed by Sydney Living Museums in collaboration with self-confessed city fanatic and illustrator, James Gulliver Hancock, this excellent exhibition was adapted from the bestselling Lonely Planet pop-up book How Cities Work.

Hancock's playful obsession with drawing has led him around the world to capture buildings in New York and London and closer to home in Sydney and Melbourne. His illustrations and books have delighted children far and wide.
