Ross Manning: Idling Engines
Children's Art Centre GOMA
Ross Manning: Idling Engines allows young GOMA visitors to explore a hand-made forest of small motors attached to cables hanging from the ceiling that respond to movement through the gallery.
Complementing The Motorcycle: Design, Art, Desire exhibition, the special interactive kids activity was designed by artist Ross Manning, who has a fascination for science and how things work. Through his art, he explores the relationship between humans and technology and often works with light and sound.
The installation includes a number of small motors that have been attached to cables hanging from the ceiling. When triggered the motors send vibrations up and down the cables, shaking an assortment of simple materials that have been clipped onto the cables and producing a variety of sounds.
