Gold Coast Beach Parade
Burleigh Heads
Help save one of Australia's greatest icons - the koala - and set a world record at the inaugural GemLife Gold Coast Beach Parade on Sunday, May 16, 2021.
The Gold Coast Beach Parade wants you to get involved and set a world record for the most amount of people wearing koala ear visors in beachwear in a beach parade.
Not only will the parade shine a spotlight on the Gold Coast's gorgeous sandy white beaches, and boost tourism, but will help raise much need funds to help save our koalas with registration fees going directly to Currumbin Wildlife Hospital.
With koalas now classified as ‘vulnerable ’ in Queensland, the risk of our beloved koala becoming extinct on the Gold Coast is very real. According to Currumbin Wildlife Hospital veterinarian, Michael Pyne, the hospital treats almost 600 koalas every year and sadly, they continue to struggle in increasing numbers.
“We can’t do without community support and I am delighted that people will be highlighting the plight of our koalas by wearing koala ear visors in the Gold Coast Beach Parade, with every entry helping to save koalas at Currumbin Wildlife Hospital.”
The Gold Coast Beach Parade will be the first time the city has seen an event that welcomes the whole community since COVID-19 slammed the door shut on many local events and festivals, and is a great opportunity for locals and visitors, young and old, to get outdoors and get active.
The 3km Beach Parade will commence at beautiful Burleigh Heads on the beach adjacent to Justins Park, and travel along the white sands to North Burleigh, and then return. Following the Beach Parade, a fashion show will showcase stunning resort and swimwear pieces from local designers and fashion outlets.
Don't miss the chance to be part of something fun, quirky, healthy and socially responsible, and help set a world record whilst saving our koalas.
All entrants will all receive limited edition koala ear visors to wear in the parade. Entry is online only with no entries on the day. More than 500 registrations have been received already with a limit of 2,000 persons allowed to parade (under the latest COVID-safe plan) so register now.
On registering, a donation of $25 per person for an individual entry, $80 donation for a family (up to 4) and $200 donation for a company/sporting club/school (up to 10 people) will be made directly to the Currumbin Hospital Wildlife Foundation.
