Boggo Road Gaol (Jail)’s gates are open this summer holiday and ready to take you behind the infamous red brick walls, into the prison cells and the yards in small group tours.
Steeped in over 100 years of colourful history, Boggo Road Gaol (Jail) is Australia’s most notorious prison where tens of thousands of men and women served time behind its formidable walls.
These school holidays, the fascinating 1.5 hour History Tour will be held daily (excluding some public holidays), from 11am - 12.30pm. Here in the historic no. 2 Division you'll discover the 116-year history of Boggo Road Gaol (Jail), the crimes committed, the daily life of prisoners and the duties of an officer.
Hear true stories of rooftop protests, riots, hunger strikes and daring escape plans including those of legendary Slim Halliday, the Houdini of Boggo Road Gaol (Jail), and Tripod the three-legged prison cat. Kids will be transported back in time as they step inside original cell blocks with original prisoner graffiti, walk in exercise yards, and discover what life was like behind bars for inmates.
Good to know - There's plenty of Q&A time throughout the tour, which is suitable for all ages and wheelchair accessible.
Need to know - Boggo Road Gaol (Jail) is conveniently located directly adjacent to Park Road Train Station and Boggo Road Bus Station. Travelling via the Cleveland, Beenleigh or Gold Coast lines, Boggo Road Gaol (Jail) is as easily accessible by public transport as it is via car or coach. There is free car parking onsite.
