The Making of Pinocchio
Brisbane Powerhouse
Making its Australian exclusive debut at Brisbane Powerhouse, as part of Brisbane Festival, The Making of Pinocchio is a true tale about love and transition, playing from September 13 to 16, 2023.
Based on the tender and complex autobiographical experience of Glasgow-based artists Rosana Cade and Ivor MacAskill, The Making of Pinocchio is told through the magical story of the lying puppet who wants to be a ‘real boy’.
Described as ‘the highlight of the opening weekend of Glasgow’s festival of contemporary international performance’ (The Guardian), the internationally-acclaimed show shifts between fantasy and authenticity, playful and political, humour and intimacy, on stage and on screen.
Set in a film studio crafted from real wood, and fake wood, and real fake wood, the audience is invited to go behind the scenes of Cade and MacAskill’s creative process and their relationship, and question what it takes to tell your truth.
Featuring a rich scenography designed by Tim Spooner, layered with sound by Yas Clarke, lights by Jo Palmer, and cinematography from Kirstin McMahon and Jo Hellier, The Making of Pinocchio is a theatrical and cinematic spectacle.
"Truly exceptional…enchanting…ravishingly beautiful" - The Arts Desk
