Scatter Bean
Taringa
Great coffee, home made avocado ice-cream and the chance to spin your own vinyl make Scatter Bean the perfect whistle stop on the Taringa City line.

Scatter Bean is a picture book cute cafe found in one of the old colonial shops by Taringa Station. Train commuters and locals alike pop in to this sunny little corner for a fix of well brewed Mambo coffee, milkshake or Tielke tea, organic/fresh-baked treats (including shortbreads from Bite My Biscuit) and to choose and play a record on the vintage stereogram.

Owner Erin has decked out the old store with a mix of retro and upcycled furniture, filled some drawers with table games and playing cards and added memories of her own childhood: her Dad’s favourite surfing album, her Mum’s delicious avo ice-cream in the fridge and pictures of Dick and Dora, Nip and Fluff on the walls, and in the process made a kind of home away from home.

The menu has expanded since our visit.
