Bao Bar
South Brisbane
Bao Bar is a pocket-sized Japanese fusion eatery serving baos and beer in between two South Brisbane apartment blocks.
With just 25 al fresco seats for in-house diners, Bao Bar also does a roaring trade in takeaway and delivery, and for good reason because these are some of the best bao to be found in Brisbane.

From the bao menu, fillings include pork belly (soy dashi braised pork, ssamjang, cos and kewpie), karaage chicken (Japanese fried chicken, cos, avo & youm-yum sauce), beef short rib (beef rib, tare sauce, avo, truffle kewpie, sesame & cos), chicken katsu (crispy panko chicken, sando sauce, cos & aonori) or truffle mushroom (mushroom, truffle kewpie, avo, parmesan cheese & cos). There are two bao buns per serve.

As well as the delectable bao, you can also order Asian 'slaw (carrot, seaweed, cabbage, sesame and cucumber), karaage chicken (Japanese fried chicken with yum-yum dipping sauce), and renkon chips & dip (lotus root chips with truffle kewpie).

A small selection of soft drinks and bottled water is also available.
Need to know - At the time of visiting in September 2020, Bao Bar was awaiting a liquor licence and once approved, will be serving craft beers and Japanese cocktails. Meantime customers can BYO beer or wine.
