Graceville Railway Station

Graceville

A rare example of a post war station fitted out between 1952 and 1959 in the new age of Modernist design which was a deliberate move away from the traditional railway station.

Dominant features of this design include the butterfly roof awnings (as seen in many cottages built in this era), the terrazzo tiles to the waiting room and window sills, the benches and the cast iron drinking fountain. At the time of its completion it was featured in newspaper articles as one of the most modern stations in Australia.
