The first cinema to operate on this site, the Avro, opened as a single open air cinema in 1912 and closed after the end of World War I, before having a renaissance as the larger covered Avro theatre in 1926. Today this theatre still remains as Cinema 1, the largest in the complex of 6 quirkily themed cinemas, albeit with a peach & brown interior that pays homage to the ‘70’s.

Meantime, the opulent kitsch foyer of the Balmoral Cinema, with its psychedelic carpet and ornate black and gold pillars, ensures a unique cinema experience from the onset.

With cheap children’s tickets in town for all sessions, this is a great family movie venue.
