Beautiful: The Carole King Musical
Lyric Theatre Qpac
Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, the smash-hit Broadway sensation, has arrived at the Lyric Theatre, QPAC and will wow audiences through until September 2.
Featuring hit songs from the 60s and 70s including (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, I Feel The Earth Move, You’ve Got A Friend, Will You Love Me Tomorrow?, and Locomotion, BEAUTIFUL tells the inspirational true story of Carole King’s remarkable rise from teenage songwriter to global superstar.
She fought her way into the record business as a schoolgirl but it wasn’t until her personal life began to crack that she finally found her true voice and went on to become one of the most successful solo artists in pop music history.
At age 17, King penned her first Number 1 hit in colaboration with Gerry Goffin (who later became her husband), and the pair wrote dozens of chart toppers together. More than 400 of King's songs have been recorded by more than 1,000 recording artists world-wide.
Esther Hannaford has received rave reviews for her role as Carole King, and theatre-goers will know her for her critically-acclaimed performance in Little Shop of Horrors, plus shows such as Mr Burns and King Kong: The Musical. Hannaford is also an accomplished singer / songwriter herself, having released her own EP, The Great Egret. Always a fan of Carole King's music, after learning more about her inspirational life story, Hannaford is now even more enamoured with the woman herself.
Playing the role of King's husband, Gerry Goffin, is award-winning artist, Josh Piterman. He has performed with The Ten Tenors, and in productions around the country such as West Side Story, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Cats, and is thrilled to be taking on this character.
Beautiful: The Carole King Musical's stellar cast is an A-list of who's who in Australian musical theatre, including Lucy Maunder, Mat Verevis, Naomi Price, Barry Conrad, Ruva Ngwenya and Michael Hart, just to name a handful.
Australian audiences have fallen in love with this inspirational true story of the most successful female songwriter of the 20th century, and Brisbane theatre-goers will, too.
