Picnic for Peace is a free, family-friendly day out to commemorate the centenary anniversary of the Armistice on November 11, 2018, at the State Library of Queensland.

Taking place on Maiwar Green, between the State Library and the Gallery of Modern Art, this special event honours the historic agreement that led to the end of the First World War.

Fun activities on the day include guided conservation tours, interactive children’s activities and an old-fashioned sausage sizzle. Guests can enjoy live music performances by the Birralee Singers choir, Tim Jackman, and the South Brisbane Federal Band (The Feds).

At 11am there will be one minute’s silence to pay respects to the brave men and women who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Wesley Enoch, an Indigenous Australian playwright and former Artistic Director of Queensland Theatre, will speak at a special screening of Black Diggers at 2pm. Filmed in front of a live audience, the critically acclaimed Queensland Theatre production tells the untold story of Indigenous soldiers in the First World War and follows their stories from their homelands to the battlefields of Gallipoli, Palestine and Flanders.

From 6pm, the State Library will join other Queensland landmarks, buildings and bridges across the state and light up in red as a tribute to the 57,705 Queensland soldiers who enlisted in World War 1.
