Harajuku Gyoza

South Brisbane

South Bank revellers and city salarymen descend in their droves to refuel at Harajuku Gyoza, a traditional Japanese beer and dumpling bar straight out of Tokyo's Shibuya ward.

This popular bar eatery is  also the first and only place in Queensland to serve Japan's famous 'air cheesecake', a light fluffy concoction of cream cheese, sugar and whipped cream.'. Two versions are avaiilable - either the original, which is dusted with kinako powder and served with a pot of brown sugar syrup to pour over it - or white chocolate and matcha sauce.

Harajuku gyoza

Gyoza (traditional Japanese dumpling) comes grilled or poached in tapas style serves of 5, with fillings of chicken, duck, pork or vege, while whole prawn gyoza comes in a serve of 3. Order sides of rice, pickled cabbage, bean sprouts with pork o cucumber with miso.

And for those who are gyoza'd out, there's a small range of options including chicken karaage and beef gyudon. Either way, for the full salary man experience, don't miss a Japanese beer to accompany – Kirin on tap, Sapporo, Hatachino or Yebisu.

Whilst seating is at tables and booths, the best fun is to be had around the u-shaped centre bar with views of the Gyoza chefs in action and group cheers led by staff when food or drink is served.

Need to know - Harajuku Gyoza also has an outlet in Albert Lane in Brisbane's CBD.
