Opera Queensland Under the Stars

Riverstage

Opera Queensland launches its 40th season in spectacular style, Under the Stars, at Riverstage on Saturday, November 28, 2020.

As the sun sets, Opera Queensland will take to the stage featuring ten principal artists and a mighty 60-strong Opera Queensland chorus, performing with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and a choir of young singers from Yeronga State High School.

Performing together for the first time in 2020, this special, one-off event is a celebration of music and song and a kickstart to Opera Queensland's 40th anniversary next year.

Hosted by Jason Barry-Smith, the audience will be swept away by the beautiful voices of José Carbó, Eva Kong, Samuel Piper, Xenia Puskarz Thomas, Hayley Sugars, Sofia Troncoso and Kang Wang, working with maestro Dane Lam, as they  perform some of the greatest music from the most popular operas, including Mozart’s Letter Duet, made famous in The Shawshank Redemption and the Brindisi, or Drinking Song, from Verdi’s La traviata.

The concert will also include an encore performance of Songs of Belonging, created by Queensland composer Helen Franzmann with students from Yeronga State High School and Opera Queensland.

Rounding out Opera Queensland's Under the Stars program is a special guest performance from one of Australia’s most acclaimed musicians, who will be revealed closer to the concert date.

Audiences are invited to bring a blanket and join their family and friends for an enchanted evening underneath the star lit sky, with Covid-safe seating in socially-distanced bubbles of up to four people.

Nice to know - Opera Queensland’s highly anticipated 2021 season will also be announced on the night.

Need to know - BYO food and drink is not permitted as there will be food vendors and pop-up bars available on-site.
