Hajime Japanese Restaurant is a small al fresco Japanese eatery located in the base of a modern building on a corner in Wynnum's town centre.

There's a handful of tables for dine in and patrons can sit next to the plant boxes and watch the world go by as they tuck into the delicious fresh dishes.

On the menu you'll find entrees such as crumbed oysters, tempura prawn, seaweed salad, karaage chicken or sliced squid; gyoza; takoyaki or okonomiyaki.

A selection of sashimi includes a sashimi set and as well there's tuna or Wagyu beef tataki or a sashimi set and poke bowls (raw salmon or spicy tuna). A house signature are the sushi rolls (think blossom hana, forest moni, volcano kazan, rainbow niji and snow yuki).

On the hot food menu there are sizzling dishes including chargrilled teriyaki chicken, yaki u-don, sizzling prawn or MP5 wagyu beef, while recommended are the bento boxes (karaage chicken, teriyaki salmon, chargrilled teriyaki chicken). There' also Don (Japanese rice dishes) and lunch specials (tonkatsu pork or karaage chicken bun with salad and terikai sauced & mayo dressing).

*At the time of our visit in early November Hajime was BYO and awaiting a liquor licence to be approved.
