Neal Macrossan Park

Paddington

Updated: Mar 10, 2025

One of the city’s oldest parks was originally built as the playground to the adjacent Paddington Kindergarten – Brisbane’s first kindergarten established in 1905 - and preceding that it was Brisbane’s first free settlement cemetery.

Thoughts of underlying pioneer’s coffins aside, it is an excellent spot for children of all ages with two separate play zones for young and old on the upper level as well as dogs who can run free in the sunken grassy pit with shelters and benches for owners below.

Included in the complex are barbecue and picnic facilities, solar heated Ithaca Pool (circa 1901), and a tennis court which is council owned and free to the public.

Along Given Terrace a landmark magnificent row of hundred year old fig trees cling to the embankment above the dog park and pool whilst a secret garden frequented by kookaburras and backpackers is nestled on the far side.

Overall an excellent all-in-one venue for children, dogs, eating and recreation.
