Are Old Ways the New Ways in Science?

Updated: Mar 29, 2025

Join Cheryl Leavy and special guests for a discussion exploring and applying traditional knowledges in current marine research and practice, in Are Old Ways the New Ways in Science? at Cremorne Theatre, QPAC on March 27.

While modern science traces its roots back a few thousand years, the reality is that knowledge has been collected for far longer.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples were the first scientists of this land, holding deep, centuries-old understandings of the world. But how much of the current scientific approach, especially in terms of caring for marine and coastal environments, is shaped by this old knowledge?

Find out in this fascinating and throught-provoking discussion, part of this year's World Science Festival Brisbane.
