Reefworld Aquarium

Hervey Bay

Updated: Jul 23, 2020

Reefworld Aquarium in Hervey Bay is an all natural aquarium - one of only a few in the world - using sand-filtered sea water and natural sunlight.

Highlights of this unique beachfront aquarium are hand feeding the green sea turtles, swimming with reef sharks and observing the fish native to the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

The touch tank offers smaller children the opportunity to directly interact with star fish, sea urchins, coral and a selection of miniature reef fish. Inside the tanks, look out for the unusual and highly venomous stone fish, manta rays, sea apples, lungfish and many other colourful, tropical fish.

Along the walls, there is an educational display of shark teeth, rare shells and bones. After all the underwater excitement, it is possible to enjoy a meal at the Waterfront Restaurant, overlooking Fraser Island and Urangan Pier.
