Australian Cinematheque GOMA

South Brisbane

Updated: Jul 22, 2020

The Australian Cinematheque occupies a pair of intimate custom designed theatrettes which are encased in the black box jutting out from the road side of GOMA.

Both show thematic and retrospective films and visual culture to coincide with expositions at the galleries and while one has retractable seats for multimedia performances the other is home to the 1929 Wurlitzer organ which was salvaged from the demolition of Brisbane’s opulent Regent Theatre auditorium in the 1970’s.

Japanese animation, film noir, director’s collections, sci-fi are amongst the myriad of entertaining possibilities that will never appear on a commercial screen but can be viewed here.
