Booroodabin Bowls Club

Newstead

Updated: Mar 08, 2025

As Queensland’s oldest bowls club, Booroodabin was founded in 1888 under the patronage of Lord Lamington, who went on to bigger things by becoming Queensland’s Governor from 1896-1901.In another showing from the top the first club president was Sir Thomas McIllwraith who, in 1888 was having his second shot as Queensland Premier at the time.

Although the original timber clubhouse was replaced in 1901, most of the original structure remains, albeit with some fancy brickwork from the 1950’s. The first club honour board listing Thomas McIllwraith among its member names is one of the club relics still to be found inside.
