Central Railway Station

Updated: Mar 08, 2025

Erected in 1899 to a Federation Free Style design by colonial architect JJ Clark of Treasury Building fame, Central Railway Station forms a significant part of a heritage precinct that includes Anzac Square, the Shrine of Remembrance, the GPO and St Stephen’s. As such the clock tower forms a line with the shrine and the GPO beyond.

Although much of its interior has been altered over time, the Ann St façade remains relatively intact and inside the railway diner and Platform Bar give the nod to a past era of travel.
