Redcliffe Town Council Chambers

Redcliffe

Updated: Mar 08, 2025

This classic functionalist building, striking in its perfect symmetry, was designed in 1939 by domestic architect Sidney Prior and finished construction in 1941. It was built to replace old council chambers at a time when Redcliffe had surged ahead in popularity, tourism and development, largely as a result of the Hornibrook Highway’s opening.

The stint as a Council Chambers lasted until 1972 when, as a result of Redcliffe having been officially recognised as a city in 1959 the Council had way outgrew its premises. Today the building is well maintained and a shining example of the architecture of its time.
