Last updated: May 16, 2025
Discover (or re-discover) one of the greatest romance films of all time in an unforgettable evening of cinema and live music when Brief Encounter comes to the Concert Hall, QPAC on July 19.
Brief Encounter in Concert brings David Lean’s timeless classic to the QPAC Concert Hall on the big screen, accompanied by Queensland Symphony Orchestra performing the film’s score live.

As an extra special treat, award-winning pianist (and low-key heartthrob) Konstantin Shamray will perform the solo of Rachmaninov’s ravishing Piano Concerto No. 2, a piece made famous by its use in the film.
Released in 1945, Brief Encounter remains a landmark in British cinema, revered for its poignant portrayal of forbidden love and emotional restraint.

Set against the backdrop of a London railway station, the story follows Laura, a respectable suburban housewife, and Alec, a married doctor. Their chance meeting on a train platform soon blossoms into a passionate yet doomed love affair. What begins as a quiet companionship quickly evolves into a soul- stirring connection, complicated by duty, circumstance, and the confines of 1940s society.

Whether you're discovering the film for the first time or returning to it with nostalgia, this is a rare opportunity to experience Brief Encounter like never before. This unique collaboration between film and orchestra promises a powerfully romantic concert.
