The Library Cafe

South Bank

Annexed to the State Library, The Library Cafe provides a decent rest stop between art galleries.

An outdoor patio captures the river breezes, with couches and easy chairs to flop and revive with a coffee, as well as an indoor area packed with nooks and crannies. (For reasons unknown seating inside is either a small wooden toadstool or an oversized leather armchair).

The menu is deli style and you order and pay at the counter, the service at which is mercifully efficient considering the long queues that form on weekends. Children are accommodated with a menu of sandwiches, mini pita bread pizzas and for adults pickings include lasagne, koftis with yoghurt sauce or gourmet pies (all served with fresh garden salad or roast vegetables) or mezze platters. Meantime the cakes are worth leaving room for and the coffee is reasonable.
