The Sangria Bar

South Bank

Updated: Jun 08, 2025

The Sangria Bar is the chic bodega style arm of Ole Spanish Restaurant and South Bank’s hotspot for summer drinks and late night casual feasting.

Tapas, sangria, funky wall art and fiesta are the motto here – pull up a stool at one of the long communal counters and order from the extensive bocaditas or raciones menu while DJs spin hot Latin tunes.

Must-try are the sangrias, which come in red or white, by the jug or glass and in a variety of refreshingly divine flavours  - try the blueberry and passionfruit red or the sangria colada white. Or try a flight of sangria – the pick of 4 flavours for $20.

Beer also abounds at The Sangria Bar, with Estrella Damm on tap and nine other Spanish beers on offer and a selection of Oz craft beers and ciders.

The menu borrows from Ole along with its own unique offerings, featuring cuisine from regional Spain as well as a smattering from Latin and South America.

On the Bocaditos list are traditional faves like patatas bravas, boquerones and Jamon Serrano along with the recommended Alitas de Pollo (spicy chicken wings and pimiento rojo aioli) or Colombian style Pan Tostada (toasted flatbread with chorizo, manchego, capsicum and onion).

More substantial share plates, Raciones include Tortilla Espanola, Paella for 2 (seafood, chicken or vegetarian) and delicious gambas (prawns) con chorizo, Majorcan flatbread and Vieras Con Calamres Y Chorizo (pan-fried scallop, squid, chorizo and lemon).

Need to know: The Sangria Bar is not only a great late night diner but also turns into a bit of a hot Latin dance venue on Thursday to Saturday nights.

The menu may have changed since our visit.
