Scarborough Beach Resort
Scarborough
Scarborough Beach Resort, a well-maintained modern apartment complex, is brilliantly situated in the heart of the picturesque seaside village of Scarborough at the tip of the Redcliffe peninsula.
In recent years Scarborough (the childhood home of the Bee Gees) has morphed into a delightful pine tree lined spot with gourmet cafes, a deli wine bar, fantastic fish'n'chips, the best children's parks to be found along this part of the coast and scenic sea front paths for cycling or walking all right out front of the resort (no need to get in the car).
Offering stays from one night minimum, SB Resort makes a fantastic base for city escapees seeking a dose of sea air or holiday makers wanting something different from the Gold and Sunshine Coasts.
The apartments are spacious, tastefully decorated and well-equipped, ideal for groups or families and the complex has a spa, sauna and rooftop pool area with barbecue pavilion and secure undercover parking.
Eating options include the terrific Reef Point Cafe tucked away near the Scarborough Boat Harbour, Burnt Orange just out of the village to the south, the Sugar Deli and Café 3 Eight Nine in the village itself. And no need to go far for a great coffee – Valori Espresso makes a great brew from local roaster Neli Coffee). Meanwhile it's hard to beat the delicious fish'n'chips from the Boat Shed – get some takeaway and sit on the apartment balcony or in the park under the night-illuminated trees and watch the moon rise over Moreton Island.
Along with the gorgeous sea front walks, within Scarborough Park are two fantastic themed children's playgrounds, Pirate Park and Railway Place, the former of which has a corner grove of intertwining cotton trees to climb.
Other worthwhile nearbys are a short trek down the road in Redcliffe - the tropical waterfront lagoon and playground Settlement Cove, the Redcliffe Botanic Gardens with an extraordinary flying fox colony in residence and the Redcliffe Museum with an excellent interactive display of the area's colourful history.
Shopping –wise the Redcliffe Jetty Markets take over the waterfront in Redcliffe on Sunday mornings while in Scarborough boutique Abby Lee stocks stylish resort and urban wear from the likes of Charlie Brown and Shoes on Scarborough have an impressive range of quality imports.
