Updated: Jul 12, 2025

The World Press Photo Exhibition 2025 returns to the Brisbane Powerhouse with a powerful new selection of the world’s best photojournalism from July 19 to August 17.

World Press Photo Exhibition

Now in its 70th year, the World Press Photo Contest continues to honour courageous visual storytelling and the photographers who capture the defining moments of our time. The 2025 exhibition presents the winning images from the annual contest, selected from over 59,000 entries by photographers across 141 countries.

In an era where emerging technologies blur truth and fiction, this exhibition reaffirms the vital role of human-made photojournalism. From major global conflicts to intimate personal stories, the images invite audiences to reflect, feel, connect.

This year’s exhibition also marks a trio of significant milestones, 70 years of the World Press Photo Contest, 100 years of Brisbane Airport and 20 years of partnership between Brisbane Powerhouse and Brisbane Airport.

Admission is free, with the main exhibition displayed on the Turbine Platform and continuing into the Fairfax Studio at Brisbane Powerhouse. The exhibition contains content that some visitors may find confronting. Discretion is advised, particularly for younger audiences.

Brisbane Powerhouse CEO/Artistic Director Kate Gould said the exhibition remains a touchstone for contemporary visual storytelling. “We are honoured to once again showcase this extraordinary collection. These images transcend headlines, offering unflinching, deeply human perspectives on the world around us.”
