Salonika Deli

Woolloongabba

Updated: Sep 05, 2022

SALONIKA DELI HAS TEMPORARILY CLOSED.

Salonika Deli is a hidden gem of a continental deli in Woolloongabba that specialises in Mediterranean food and Greek sweets.

Located on the ground floor of Princess Plaza, beside Hotel Diana, the specialty grocery store offers an array of deli and pantry items from Greece and around the globe.

Tins of sardines and cans of escargot nestle next to jars of jam - apricot, plum, fig and rose - and jars filled with fruit such as peaches, pears and pitted cherries.

You'll find an impressive range of pasta and pasta sauces; olive oils and vinegars; dry beans and lentils; and little containers of herbs and spices.

Customers can purchase Turkish-style coffee, chai and tea; pickled peppers, capers and sauerkraut; polenta, pierogi and pelmeni; preserved lemons and Persian rose petals.

Shelves are stocked with savoury snacks, from Italian bruschettini and Japanese rice crackers to flavoured peanuts from Greece - barbecue, balsamic vinegar and honey mustard - as well as international sweets such as biscuits and chocolate.

At the rear of the store, a fridge is filled with imported cheeses like Dutch Smoked Cheese, Manchego Sheep Cheese, Goat's Cheese, Gouda, Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano. The cheeses pair perfectly with the tasty selection of cured meats (pure pork sopressa, leg ham, mortadella and more) and antipasto on offer, plus there's a variety of olives to choose from.

The deli also offers lunch to either take-away or enjoy at one of the little tables out front, from home-made spanakopita and made-to-order sandwiches, to fresh salads and delicious Greek treats like baklava.
