Uncle Lai's

Mt Gravatt

Uncle Lai’s brings a taste of Malaysia to Mt Gravatt with classic hawker dishes commonly found on the streets of Kuala Lumpur.

Inspired by street food stalls found all over Malaysia, this little eatery offers authentic Malay fare from snacks - fried spring rolls, barbecue pork buns, dim sum and bah chang (sticky rice dumplings) – to rice dishes such as salty fish and chicken fried rice, beef rendang with rice and nasi lemak – coconut rice served with chicken curry, crispy anchovies, hard-boiled egg, peanuts and sambal sauce.

Standout dishes though are the noodles, cooked in a very hot smoky wok known as.  wok hei or breath of the wok.  Try Wat Tan Hor, Hokkien Mee or Uncle Lai’s signature dish Char Kway Teow - spicy, wok-fried flat rice noodles with Chinese sausage, squid, chicken and prawns.

Traditional desserts include mochi ice-cream, sweet red bean soup and tau foo fa – soy bean pudding.

Drink wise, there’s Chinese tea, green tea, red bean drink and iced Ribena soda.  For an authentic Malaysian experience though, order kopi o - strong black coffee with sugar served in traditional ceramic cups found in kopitiams (coffee shops).
