Festa Italiana

Howard Smith Wharves

Last updated: May 20, 2025

Get ready to say ciao to a la dolce vita culinary adventure like no other as FESTA ITALIANA returns to Howard Smith Wharves in its third year over two weekends from May 29 to June 1 and June 5 to June 8.

This year’s festival promises even more flavour, fun and festivities by the Brisbane River, with authentic Italian cuisine, lively entertainment, spritz bars, and even the chance to win a stylish ROLL'N Moped

Italian chef

Brisbane food lovers will once again be treated to an unforgettable Italian feast, led by renowned guest chef and culinary icon Orazio D’Elia of Da Orazio (Sydney). Inspired by the seaside promenades of his hometown, Naples, Orazio is bringing his signature flair and flavour to Howard Smith Wharves, serving up classic dishes with a modern twist.

foccacia

Main Lawn will take centre stage with a lively grill station serving up succulent Pollo al Mattone chicken rolls and porchetta-stuffed focaccia layered with marinated, grilled eggplant, the ultimate festival fare for riverside feasting.

rigatoni pasta

Alongside the grill, guests can tuck into Orazio’s much-loved pasta dishes, including strozzapreti ai gamberi, twisted pasta tossed with prawns, zucchini and cherry tomatoes, and rigatoni alla vodka, rich with tomato, chilli, cream and a splash of vodka.

Aperol cocktail

Just steps away, a bespoke Spritz Bar will be pouring a vibrant collection of bold and refreshing takes on Italy’s most iconic cocktails. From fruity Lambrusco Spritzes to frozen White Peach Aperol Slushies, the lineup is a lively celebration of citrus, sunshine and spritz culture. And to celebrate the occasion, neighbouring brewery, Felons Brewing Co. has brewed an Italian Lager which will be available exclusively at the festival.

Italian chef Carmine-Guarino

Joining Orazio is Carmine Guarino, who will also be bringing the true flavours of Italy to the festival. The Napoli-born chef, who has spent nearly three decades honing his craft across Naples, Rome and Brisbane, will showcase his passion for traditional Italian street food. Think Roman style pizzas served by the slice, paired with natural Italian wines and the feel-good sounds of classic Italo Disco.

Chef Dean Anning

Ciao Papi will also be serving a special set menu curated by Executive Chef Dean Anning, available across both festival weekends. The menu will showcase dishes like creamy stracciatella with grilled leeks, hazelnut and truffle, and rich rigatoni alla amatriciana, tossed with sugo, garlic, chilli and pancetta, a true celebration of bold, honest Italian cooking.

mozzarella cheese making

An authentic Italian Salumeria will bring the true flavours of Italy to life in Green House, serving artisanal charcuterie, freshly made mozzarella and deli-style goods. Guests can experience a live mozzarella-making demonstration and indulge in rich charcuterie boards alongside crispy fried calamari — a true celebration of Italian tradition.

Italian dessert cannoli

For those with a sweet tooth, Gelato Messina will be serving an exclusive festival collaboration, a bespoke dessert crafted especially for FESTA ITALIANA.

Families are in for a treat too, with a dedicated bambino zone featuring children’s entertainment and open play areas, making FESTA ITALIANA a true event for all ages. Adding to the excitement, FESTA ITALIANA will also feature live music and roaming entertainers, bringing even more vibrancy and atmosphere across both weekends.

Good to know - Event is family and dog friendly - Please keep in mind, it is in a bustling precinct so bring your pet only if they’ll feel comfortable.
