JC Slaughter Falls Bush Chapel
Mt Coot-tha
If you’re planning an intimate wedding and are shying away from the traditional church wedding, why not consider celebrating your special ceremony in the Bush Chapel nestled on the hillside of Mt Coot-tha.
Surrounded by towering eucalypts and native bushland, this secluded, rustic outdoor wedding venue in the JC Slaughter Falls forest precinct is steeped in history.
The floor of the chapel is, in fact, re-purposed concrete slabs built by soldiers back in WWII for military facilities when they were in the area in the 1940s.
Also a lovely spot for a christening ceremony in Brisbane, the Mt Coot-tha Bush Chapel features a hand-built stone pulpit adorned with a carved sandstone art piece, and guests are seated on eight well-sized logs that serve as the pews.
With the area able to cater for 30-40 guests (mostly seated), there is car parking conveniently located adjacent to the bitumen path that leads up the short walk to the chapel. It is wheelchair accessible, but there is an incline involved to get to the chapel.
You will need to request a booking to formally use the bush chapel, and information on this can be found on the Brisbane City Council website, or you can call the council on 3403 8888 and ask to speak with the Regional Parks Officer.
Nice to know – Depending on when you’re planning your nuptials, the bushland surrounding the chapel beautifully affords a sea of colourful wildflowers in bloom during Spring.
Nice to know – There are many scenic spots along the creek bed just across from the chapel that are perfect for outdoor wedding photos.
Need to know – There is no power available at the site.
