Newstead Brewing Co

Milton

Newstead Brewing Co in Milton is a stunning and sizable addition to Brisbane’s unofficial beer heartland.

Sprawled along Castlemaine St, the sleek imposing microbrewery is not just where the main Newstead brewing action takes place but encompasses a spacious beer terrace and main bar with open kitchen and soaring ceilings, with views on the gargantuan shiny beer tanks behind a glass wall.

There’s also a smaller bar area opening to the street which is available for functions and events, and at busy times, picks up crowd spillover.

Punters can pop by any day from 10am till midnight for a drink and, from midday to 10pm for a bite to eat.*

Ten beers (and cider) on tap are available at any given time with options such as Out & Bout Pale Ale, Two to the Valley IPA, Liquidambar Amber Ale, 21 Feet 7 Inches Porter, J Quarter Time Session Ale and The Mayne Thing Golden Ale (with the latter 2 giving a nod to the location, across the road from Suncorp Stadium and with nearby streets named after notorious butcher Patrick Mayne and his family who once owned land in the area).

In addition there’s Seasonal, Small Batch Collaborations and Guest Taps which are individually priced and change regularly, Seasonal Lagers (brewed once a year, during a specific season) and a Season Yeast Series (an offset o the lagers, released six weeks into each season and named after iconic Brisbane suburbs) as well as Newstead Brewing’s own Johnno Cider, made with 100% apple ferment.

Can’t decide what to try? Then order a Tasting Paddle – a choice of 4 tap beers, 150ml each.

And that’s not all – Newstead Brewing Co stock a whole bunch of Other People’s Beers (bottled), from local and interstate microbreweries as well as a smattering from Germany, Scotland and New Zealand.

Wine drinkers are well taken care of too at Newstead Brewing Co, with a curated list of boutique Australian and international wines, including a Chairman’s Selection (wines at their optimum drinking age from the Chairman’s private cellar).

There’s also a great range of premium boutique spirits available and even some classic cocktails (think Bloody Mary, Manhattan, Negroni and Cosmopolitan).

Food-wise, Newstead offers a choice of tasty Snacks and Share Plates (Including House Jerky a Brewmaster’s Platter of Cured Meats, Pickles, Olives and Mozzarella, Beer Battered Chips with egg Mayo and Charred Squid with Lemon Cream and Salad leaves.

For something more substantial there’s Pizzas (topping include Roast Eggplant, Buffalo Mozzarella and Basil; Roast Cauli, Spiced Yoghurt and Kale; or Chorizo, Cherry Tomatoes and Olives).

Then there’s Mains which include Crispy Milk Chicken Burger, House Gnocchi, Allora Pecan Fed Pork Cutlet, Market Fish or Prime Cut of the Day, all with delicious trimmings and the option of Sides like Pumpkin Slices, Almond Cream, Roast Almond and Kimchi.

Lastly, a handful of Desserts include Black Sponge with Lemon Curd, Meringue and Fif, ‘Aero’ Sundae with Beer Mousse or Sweet treats from the cabinet with ice-cream.

Well-brewed Toby’s Estate coffee is also available all day from the bar.

Nice to know – Newstead Brewing Co offer a fab way to buy your choice of fresh-brewed tap beer to take home in their own glass pitcher-like bottles – the ‘Growler’ (1.8-2l) in lieu of a 6-pack - or ‘Squealer’ (1 l) in lieu of 3 stubbies. Once bought you can bring back the bottle and get it refilled, meaning you can always have fresh-brewed beer in the house.
