Best Things to do in Ashgrove
Ashgrove is a popular inner west suburb of Brisbane, characterised by its 1920s bungalow-style Queenslanders, known as the Ashgrovian, its leafy streets including avenues with garden islands and a host of excellent lifestyle amenities. A little known piece of history of this suburb, which dates from the late 1800's is its link to the royal family, with its historic home Granite House having hosted a future King of England George V (Queen Victoria's grandson).
From wine bars and vintage cocktail bars to artisan bakeries, funky cafes, chic bistro, top pizza and burger joints, green walks and playgrounds, here's 20+ of the best things Ashgrove has to offer:
The oldest house in Ashgrove, Glenlyon, which still stands, was erected in the late 1870's as part of the Glenlyon Estate and the tree-lined path that led from its gates is now a sought after avenue of houses. The other house of note is Granite House, where the grandsons of Queen Victoria (Albert, aka Eddy and George V who became the king of England) stayed.
