Best Things to Do in Bulimba

Oxford Street Bulimba is one of those “oh of course!” spots in Brisbane, worth the drive, ferry ride (or walk, if you’re local). Here you can easily spend a day enjoying yourself and supporting some of Brisbane’s great local businesses.

Ambrosia BCC

Get off to a good start with a brunch or lunch at Ambrosia and Co, where you can chill out in their boho-glam surrounds, and enjoy people watching. If you’re after a healthy start, their smoothies and nourish bowls are for you, or there’s the drool-inducing Turkish dishes (the zucchini and halloumi fritters are a favourite) for something heartier.

Darvella Patisserie

If you’re feeling more indulgent, then make a beeline to Darvella Patisserie, with their cute indoor and outdoor spaces, and range of pastry treats. They do crowd favourites including filled donuts, cruffins, brownies and of course croissants in a regularly changing array of flavours (lamington, biscoff and peanut butter and jelly are just a few of their most recent scrumptious innovations) as well as daily-baked bread for pre-made sandwiches along with pies, sausage rolls, salads and more.

Riverbend Books BCC

Next it’s time for some exploring and no trip to Bulimba is complete without a visit to local favourite Riverbend Books. Here you're sure to find a page-turning novel or light-hearted holiday read, with plenty of spots nearby at Bulimba's Riverwalk or a local park to relax with a book. Riverbend Books is a Brisbane institution and aside from their range of new and classic books they offer gifts, a café, book clubs and special meet-the-author events. Keep an eye on their social pages, as you’ll often see events with the likes of Trent Dalton and visiting authors such as Dr Anita Heiss.

A Little Morocco

If you’re up for a spot of shopping, don’t miss new pop-up store A Little Morocco. Specialising in authentic handmade Moroccan rugs, baskets, pottery, furniture, jewellery and homewares, the exotic shop is a great place to find that unique piece for your home. They also offer in-home styling over Zoom and can help you uncover what would work best for your space and lifestyle.

Balmoral Cineplex

Feeling creative, and have some blank walls at home? Then why not pay a visit to Rose Soiree – Bulimba’s own paint and sip experience, where you can unearth or indulge your creative side and make your own masterpiece. Remember, everyone is an impressionist after a few wines! Or maybe you’d prefer to indulge in the latest rom-com, thriller, or Marvel to hit the big screen? The local Cineplex is like stepping back in time, from the ticket prices to the glamorous retro foyer. Or, if everything sounds like it’s all a bit much, and you need to relax and de-stress then look no further than Bliss Float. The team specialise in luxurious sensory deprivation floats and sauna packages, perfect for both mental and physical unwinding.

Revel Brewing

After this, you may need a treat. For the kids and sweet-tooths there’s Nom Nom Natural Gelato – they offer natural gelato made on site with vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options. If it’s an adult's treat you’re after, check out the range of craft beer on offer at Revel Brewing Co or The Oxford Tap House, both locations boast cosy outdoor seating, quality beer and enthusiastic staff.

Vietnamese Mint

Finish the day off with a fabulous meal at Yatai, specialising in Japanese street food (don’t miss their tori karaage platter) or try some mouth-watering Pho, noodles or hand rolls at Vietnamese Mint (their Bulimba special Pho is a crowd-pleaser).
