Reservoir House

Balmoral

Originally built on the hill in 1939 as one of many similar gravity-fuelled water reservoirs to service their surrounding suburbs, this concrete tower ceased commission in the late 1980’s and was sold to a lateral-thinking private buyer at auction in 1992.

The innovative Robert Riddel architectural firm managed the successful conversion of the 12m high 22m wide structure whose walls were up to 1m thick at the base. Inside the rooms encircle an inner courtyard at the core, donut fashion, from where a cement pillar holds up the original reservoir roof above.
