Wordsmiths Cafe
St Lucia
Finding Wordsmiths is like happening upon a clearing in the jungle and finding it full of uni students swatting over heavy tomes on circular sandstone tablets.
Overhung with palm fronds and flanked by the ancient-looking stone carvings (depicting the faces of Brisbane literati including Thea Astley, David Malouf, Peter Carey) by ubiquitous Queensland sculptress Rhyl Hinwood, it is a perfect place to enjoy one of the delicious hot breakfasts, fresh salads, crepes or quiches. Milkshakes are served in the traditional tin cups and dogs and children are most welcome.
Adjacent is the Co-op bookshop, an excellent source for text and reference books on all topics as well as a fascinating browse.
