Ipswich Antique Centre Café
Ipswich
THIS CAFE IS CURRENTLY CLOSED.
Tucked away in the impressive Ipswich Antique Centre (in the restored Uniting Church Central Memorial Hall) is its in-house café. It’s not news to the centre’s customers, who’ve no doubt been tempted by the delectable baking aromas as they rummage through the mind-boggling array of antiques and collectibles.
In keeping with the yesteryear ambience, the treats made on the premises by baker, Allen, have a comforting old-fashioned feel. With traditional slices like your mum or grandma used to make – think raspberry and coconut or marshmallow and chocolate – combined with scones and the more contemporary muffins, the café caters to all kinds of tastes.
They even do a high tea by arrangement – for a minimum of 10 people and booked a fortnight in advance. Items include ribbon sandwiches, mini quiches, cheesecake, scones with jam and cream, and smoked salmon vol-au-vents. Importantly, they have leaf tea from Twinings for the authentic cuppa experience rather than the wannabe teabag version.
Lunch options include basics such as toasted sandwiches or try a delicious fresh wrap such as smoked salmon and salad.
It’s very pleasant sitting under the chandeliers as you enjoy your food and drinks and gaze around at the nearby antique stalls. There are magazines to browse through and a toybox to keep the littlies happy.
