Banks St Reserve
Newmarket
Straddling Newmarket and Alderley is this 37ha of peaceful bush and parkland where once fields of market gardens thrived. At its base are a couple of playgrounds on the Newmarket side, some well kept parks and a grove of primitive blue quandongs which were planted in 1987. The blue quandong dates back to the end of the Jurassic period when the first flowering plants emerged and its distinctive blue berries have an inner seed that is sought after for jewellery.
A couple of kilometres of wide bush tracks traverse the hill and there are also entrances from View St and Banks St. The Quandong St entrance is only about a hundred metres from the delightful walk/cycle path via Ithaca Creek to Red Hill’s Woolcock Park
